| Mike (Mr. Warmth) Caldwell was my college coach and I OWNED him. Probably hit .750 or so off him in intrasquad games and stole bases at will, even when he balked. (Unfortunately, hit only .285 off inferior college pitching) | ||||||||||
| After many brushes with greatness as a player (beat 1st-round pick Reggie Harris 3 times as a senior, dueled 1st-round pick Chris Haney for 7 scoreless innings in the regional semis before watching the 'pen blow it, caught Roger McDowell and pitched BP to Curt Ford before spring training in '86, looked helpless and silly against Erik Hanson and played for Mike Caldwell in college), I now take great pleasure from coaching my oldest son (who looks to be better than the old man - star of a 19-3 team in a league he's technically not old enough for) and look forward to coaching the other two as they get older. | ||||||||||
