All SPB 1972 Managers, With next season bringing in the advent of the DH in 1973 (A.L. real life), I feel now is the time to announce the league decision concerning this much discussed matter. The foremost reason for arriving at this conclusion is based on the fact that the N.L. did not, nor has it ever considered adding a DH. This league(SPB) was formed to honor the tradition of baseball played in it's purest most natural form anyway. But primarily because of the N.L not using this rule, it would cause a shortage of quality players to stock our SPB Leagues with players at this position(?). So therefore, we will not use the DH for future years. This will not cause a problem with players who were used as DH's, they will be given the most basic defensive ratings for the positions they either played, or in some cases, had played in the past I have discussed this extensively with Jim Wheeler, our previous Commissioner, and one who I know always has the best interest of SPB at heart, and have thereby arrived at the decision that there will be no DH's in SPB. The game has an internal hitting device that deals with batters (A.L. pitchers) who never batted and will handle this type of player with ease. They may not hit much, but like many real life pitchers, they can and will get hits, sometimes even in key siturations. I thought now with a year to go, I would announce this to all managers so they would know what direction we will take with SPB. I have had several managers over the last 7-8 months ask about it, and now feel safe to tell everyone the way it will be. Best, Gary
