COMMISSIONER NOTES from September 17th-25th (1) Geoff Kroll, new manager of the former Dayton Tip-tops has given me a new mail address. Please delete the ieway.com one and post his new address as geoff@afsmtg.com (2) Well, another obsticle has been cleared with the drafting of the two new expansion teams for 1962. Since the '61 expansion had been held a year ago with Mike Murphy and Joe DeZarlo being named new managers for the first of two consecutive expansion years, it was time to get the second one over with too. The complete results will follow shortly. As for now, I will remind you that Pat Lucas has the Tennessee Studs playing in Colt Stadium, and Rod Witten will handle the reins of the other '62 expansion franchise, the Nags Head Reefers playing their home games in the Polo Grounds. For those of you who need a refresher on the '61 expansion teams, Joe DeZarlo is manager of the South River Rats playing their home games in Metropoltian Stadium, and Mike Murphy's Perrysburg Stingers are home based in Wrigley Field (LA Version). Complete nineteen man roster will be sent out soon with the players names and current teams. (3) With the advent of the next two upcoming seasons being expansion years. I'm posting for your information the rosters of all four teams to be added to our ranks. I will list the team name, manager, home park, and rosters. On the rosters will be a designation for each player in parentheis as to the team he is currently owned by. Players with no such team listed will be upcoming in rookie drafts for those years. Keep in mind that such players may be veterans who were cut at one time or another. 1961 Teams Perrysburg Stingers South River Rats Mike Murphy, Mgr. Joe DeZarlo, Mgr. They will be allowed to start trading at the conclusion of the previous seasons. (after '60 for '61, and after '61 for '62). If there was a mistake on the previous team (in parentheis) please inform me and I will correct it. (4) Just a note to remind all of you the trading deadline will be at 11:59 P.M. on Saturday the 27th of Sept. Final, offical SPB-70 disk files will then be sent out no later than Monday the 29th, and play will begin on October 1st. Please wait until you have the official disk before sending out any manager profiles or playing any games, of course. I will give a brief rundown soon on the excepted and expected way of monthly play, for the benefit of all new managers (and a review for the old reliables). (5) Since many of you are new to the SPB Leagues, it has been suggested that I review the proper monthly playing proceedures. SPB70 will start on Oct. 1st. You should have your "official SPB70 disk" by then. It will contain the schedule and the final rosters for every team. You will then check the schedule for your team for the month. Every series is set up monthly, as you will see. You then build manager profiles to send to the opposing home manager for all of your aways series. When you have built the profile just export it to disk and zip it up and send via e-mail to your opponent. Home team managers should receive zipped files from the visiting manager NO LATER THAN THE 5TH of the month of play. You then have untill the 20th to get all your home series played. By that date (the 20th) you should transport each series stats FOR BOTH TEAMS, home and away zipped and sent to the opposing (visiting) manager, along with each games scoresheet and boxscore, that you will also have to save to file. Then you combine all homes series stats for your team and all your opponents, zip these and send them to the League Statistician no later than the 20th of each month. The stat will then forward each of you a year to date(YTD) disk with your teams up to date stats each month. He will do this as soon as all managers have reported their results to him. He will also forward a file with just that months results as well as the YTD stats. Then you will be able to look at your team and figure your next months manager profiles out and start the whole process over for the next month of play. Remember the League Stat for SPB-70 is Peter Reoch. All e-mail addresses for each manager are in the Website. Thanks, I hope this is not to confusing, but if you have a question, or a problem, now is the time to ask! Good luck to each of you in the initial season of SPB-1970! (6) With the start of our first season just 11 days away, I feel it will be best to remind all of you that you must have at least 575 at bats available at every position (c, 1b, 2b, etc.) on your team according to the League Constitution. I cannot stress this enough for if your team runs short of at bats and overuses players, it could cost you severly in the next seasons draft. Please be sure to check out your team, for there will be no leniency in this area. Don't mess around and loose quality picks in '71! (7) A couple of items I left out from my proper playing proceedures message of this morning are: Be sure to rest both teams one game only after the 4th game of ANY series. Starting pitchers in the '70's League will require at least two days of rest between starts. It is a good idea to build a separate directory for each month of the season and only play that months home games in each directory with stats set at zero to start. And finally you do have to play off the schedule. IOW, hit play, scheduled, move to the proper sheduled series and set it to OneGame untill all games are finished. Any questions on these, or other items? (8) Remember the trading deadline is this Saturday(Sept. 27) at 11:59 P.M. and dues are to be paid in full by Monday the 28th. Send your dues to Jim Wheeler, 4941 Appleridge Ct, Dayton, Ohio 45424 by this time; dues are $25.00. No trades accepted after Saturday. (9) Managers of SPB '28, It is with great adeiu that I announce the Division winners who will go ahead to play in the '28 World Series. Although the final stats are not in yet, it is known that Mike Cascarano's Hollywood Stars will meet the Eastern Winner John Ungashick and the Evanston Wildcats in the '28 Series. They both went down to the wire in their divisions before finally wrapping it up with a title solidified in the September series. So if you would like to send each fellow a vote of confidence and good luck wishes in the Series, this is the time for it. The Series will open on the West Coast this year with the Stars having the first two home games.
