All SPB-100 Managers,
Things seem to be working fairly well with our deadball era rules, but after
discussing this with our rules committee, we have decided to make a minor
adjustment to the rules regarding protected players for the Phase II draft for
the upcoming 1909 season. I think all of you will be happy with this.
1. Prior to the Phase I Rookie Draft, each manger will submit a list of protected players.
2. Teams may protect the following number of players;
a) Teams with the four (4) highest winning percentages-16 players.
b) Teams with the four (4) lowest winning percentages-18 players.
c) All remaining teams protect 17 players.
3. Each team is allowed to keep one (and ONLY 1) uncarded player, not
counting against their protected roster. Each manager will submit the
name of the player when protected rosters are called for. This is a freebie
similar to the years when Military players are exempt from counting towards
protected rosters. This will help all teams each season, except for the few
that occasionally may not have an uncarded player. This change will go into
effect for all SPB historical leagues immediately when the next protected
rosters are called for.
The change here is that we have increased the protected players by one (1)
player. We did this as the roster sizes have increased a lot since 1905
and we felt the smaller protected lists were no longer fair to all teams.
The new rule regarding being able to protect one (1) and only one uncarded
player is also listed here. This is in addition to your regular protected
roster. This rule has been changed effective for the upcoming Phase I and
II drafts in October.
