Rifles
muzzle Blue Sox for 59 Crown
Bob Callichia’s Rossmoor Rifles used a
combination of strong starting pitching, and timely hitting to move the
championship plaque westward from Chicago.
This was the maiden voyage into the post-season for both managers, with
Steve Ehresman having the easier trip of the two.
Don Hoak was named series MVP, by reaching
base 18 out of 32 times (.562). Hoak also hit .462 (12-26). The Rifles were out-homered in the series
9-2, but the two teams were tied with 16 extra-base hits apiece.
Enclosed are the team hitting and pitching
statistics for both teams for the series. As a general rule, I do not go into
too much depth as far as the game-by-game statistics and the individual
boxscores since the newsletter already covers those items.
Bob Calicchia took over the Rifles from Red
Sears after the 1956 season and continued the steady improvement of the team
that Red had built. The team was
originally managed by George Kaldis, who stranded the team after 193 losses in
the franchises first 2 seasons.
Congratulations goes out to both clubs, and
to Bob, once again, for reaching the pinnacle of fantasy sports.
OTHER SERIES NOTES:
- This is to believed to be the first time that a team
winning the series title has hit more Triples than Home Runs as a team.
- The Rifles
bullpen inherited 5 baserunners.....none of them scored.
