Jessie Barfield homers in 2nd inning as Scotties score first. Rain began to fall in top of 3rd, bottom of inning Milt Thompson
walked with one out then a 29 minute rain delay. With two out Wade Boggs doubles down left field line. Milt’s legs must have
stiffened up during the rain delay and soft ground could have been factors as he was thrown out at home trying to score. 0 on
scoreboard for both team till top of 8th. Nolan K’d PH Lombardozzi & Armas to start the inning, then light hitting catcher Bob
Boone doubled to LC. Gary Pettis singled to left scoring PR Bill Almon from second. Marc Unger made his first Marcs March to the
Mound as he strolled to the mound and Nolan handed him the ball after 7.2 ip 3H 1R 1B 6K. Lefty Mickey Mahler was brought in and
promptly K’d Dwayne Murphy (first battle between the two in the series). Top of 9th Eddie Murray led off with a single to right.
Exit Mahler entered Ted Power with one out – he promptly walked two to load the bases. Marc strolled out once again and motioned for
Terry Leach. Leach gifted the Mountaineers another base on balls!! Three in a row allowed Murray to score, giving the Mountaineers
a one run lead. Bottom of 9th with closers Willie Hernandez 24 SVs, Dan Quisenberry 16 SVs and Jeff Lahti 6 SVs =46 with 14 blown
saves, Mountaineer Skipper Brunner sticks with knuckler Hough to face the Scotties. Mike Schmidt promptly singles up the middle
to fire up the crowd. Dwight Evans grounded to second for the first out; however, fleet footed Schmidt moved to second.
Jesse Barfield 2-3 with a double and HR was given the Barry Bonds treatment and promptly issued a free pass to first.
Jorge Orta was K’d and Alan Trammell went quietly 4-3 for the final out.

Game 4 @ Blue Ridge – Game 1 starters return Nolan Ryan & Charlie Hough
Unlike the first three games when offense was limited. Mountaineers don’t waste time and chase Nolan after 2.2
innings 6h 6r 3BB 5K. Big hits came from Bob Boone double that scored two in 2nd scoring one more via SF by Dwyane
Murphy for a 3-0 lead. Bottom of the third looked good for Nolan with strikeouts to Ward & White. Gary Gaetti single
followed by a Bill Almon HR and then Gary Matthews solo HR. Both Almon & Matthews making their first start of the series.
Marc and the Scottie faithful that made the trip to Blue Ridge had seen enough of the Ryan Express. Edwin Nunez came in
for the first time of the series and shut down the home team. Scotties get on the board in the 4th with a Mike Schmidt HR.
Mountaineer offense was AWOL for rest of the game. Scotties started the 8th with and Alan Trammell double however three
consecutive grounds outs, one to the catcher Bob Boone and two to SS Almon allowed Trammell to score for a 6-2 deficit.
With two out in the 9th Dwight Evans doubled down the third base line. No mound visit, trust in Charlie Hough and no
faith in the closers. Milt Thompson made the final out grounding to short.
