===================================== Comrades, If the 101 win former Lincoln Tunnel( now Mr Rahn's Red Storm) think that this is a rebuilding year, well "blow me down" as Popeye used to say!!!! Since we don't have the offensive prowess of having 7 players in double digit home runs, let alone one player who hits more HR's than both of our double digit homer guys combined, management at the lowly Dukes will DUMP any and every player on this squad for future draft picks. Since we only have one player potentially worth a 1st round pick( Don Gullett)--you want him---you got him for that. Brooks Robinson---how about a simple 2nd or 3rd round pick??? Catch the drift???????????? Why doesn't Schweitzer trade some players one might ask??? Convert his crap into draft picks??? Bring it on. Dismantle and pick away at the carcass. No offers refused. Schweitzer =================================== In looking over my new team, the Niskayuna Red Storm, I see an offensive force with some Stars like Hank Aaron and Harmon Killebrew - along with solid middle infielders like Mike Andrews and Leo Cardenas who have 1971 seasons that could turn a decent team into a contendor. Cesar Tovar has a great 1971 season and Jim Northrup could really make a difference for the right team. I could take this excellent Red Storm offense and try to contend, however my pitching staff isn't quite there. Time to rebuild this team in my image (yikes - that could be scarey). Andy Messersmith is the only guy I am probably not wiilling to deal, but it depends on the offer. I am looking to trade the following in a package for future players and draft picks. I need to get AB's and G's back in return (quality not important as this is a rebuilding season): Henry Aaron (RF/1B): .327/.436/.669 with 47 HR and 118 RBI. Mike B. in KC ============================================= Gentlemen: I’m looking for some LH hitting, preferably OF’ers, but would consider others. I have P Chuck Dobson with potentially 33 starts and 3.81 as well as Bob Priddy with 44 relief appearances and 4.22 . I’d trade one or both of them for the right player. Hope to hear from you. Thanks, Rick Rossville Cubs ========================================== If you need some decent starts to fill out your team, if your lacking a good 4th or 5th starter, or even a 3rd, or if you just a few starts away from being a potential division winner, maybe you might be interested in someone on my list. I have LH Chris Short with 29 starts and 6 reliefs this season. He has a decent 3.85 ERA. He pitches two more seasons after this mainly as a reliever. Also on the block is John Strohmayer (7-5) who can make 15 starts and 14 reliefs this year at 4.34. He also pitches two more years as a decent reliever, before finishing up with one final appearance in 1974. I would consider trading Chuck Dobson (15-5) who has 33 starts this year and a decent 3.81 ERA. Chuck blows his elbow out after this year and makes scattered starts over the next 3 seasons, but doesn't have much to shout about. But he could be the man your team needs to put you over the top in 1971. I am really interested in trading these guys for decent relief pitchers in 1971 with some future left. Starters for relievers, not commonly offered. All offers responded to promptly. Also would consider trading for OF, or 2B futures, or combos. Thanks! Best, Gary =============================================== As much as we love Bob Miller – the Mountaineers may have little need for his excellence out of the pen and might help push your team over the top. Looking for 1B w/ some future – ok, anyone w/ some future. The nice thing – at this time, pitched games can be sent packing and no need for a pitcher in return. He has 139 not so terrible at bats in 1971 and is even useable in 1972. I need more pitching appearances so if you have any unlimited pitchers that you don't absolutely need in 1971, let's talk. John U - Black Sox ============================ Although I've already traded away the equivalent of an entie pitching staff, I find I have a couple of draft-insurance type guys. Both come back in future years to have mediocre (at best) seasons. The two stars I'm talking about are SP/MR Steve Luebber and MR Bill Laxton. Luebber has 24 bonus starts plus 12 bonus relief games at a 5.03 ERA. Laxton sucks badly in 1971 with an ERA like Bush's budget deficit, but he has 40 bonus relief appearances - great for when you hit August and September and your bullpen is running short on games. Make an offer. Lauer's Used Pitcher and PLayer Lot is still open. Bill Laxton / Buddy Bradford...Nobody wants me...... I'm cheap insurance for 1971, then I'll sit quietly on your 38-man for a couple of years and become a useful member of SPB1. All my owner is asking is a late-round pick or a player. Thanks for your time, Doc Schweitzer-Dukes GM PS--If you do respond, I will reply. But please give me a short note of why your offer makes sense for me. If you can't explain it, how can I buy into it? As a result the following players are actively being shopped: Tommie Agee: .285/.362/.428 in 425 AB’s. This is his last solid year before moving to part-time. Roberto Clemente: .341/.370/.502 in 522 AB’s. He has a good 1972 before the tragic end of his career. I’m looking for cheaper more long-term players. Clemente won’t be cheap. Even though I am very loathe to trade my pick I am desperately short of OF at bats, in addition to some holes elsewhere. However the best long term OF prospects in the draft (Burroughs, Hendrick, Zisk & Oglivie) have very little value or at bats in 1971 and not that much in 1972. In fact there are very few OF's in the draft with significant 1971 at bats even if they have little or no future. For the right price I might consider trading my pick. Looking for an OF with decent to good 1971 at bats and performance along with some kind of future, although it doesn't have to be a dozen years like Burroughs. If you want to wait until the draft and see who is available with my pick that is Ok with me. Any interest? ================================== The Red Streaks have a pair of very good pitchers (down the road) up for draft picks if you have room to protect them. Charlie Hough and Larry Gura can be had for decent draft picks. Don't want to just give them away, but can't afford to protect them either, so make an offer! Both of these guys have nice long careers, they just don't kick in right away. Mike Boling ================================== I have 2 relievers I can’t freeze, both in 50-plus games with ERAs in the 3.50 range, Ron “Doc” Taylor (who can also serve as your team physician!) and Al “Doc” Severinsen (who am I pretty sure cannot play the trumpet). If you have room on your rosters before the freeze, both are available for fourth or fifth-round draft choices. Dukes are always searching for pitching, but also really need an everyday shortstop! Outfield help could also work/and or a draft pick???? Thanks for reading, Doc Schweitzer =================================== After much soul searching, I will make Denny McLain available for his last useful year. I am looking for a draft pick and a player/pitcher to take his spot on the 38-man roster. David Lauer Kenosha Eagles ================================== The Las Vegas Thunder would consider trading their two very high 2nd Round Draft picks in the 1971 draft (We have the 2nd pick and the 6th pick in Rd 2) for a quality 1st round pick (not a late rd pick). This looks to be a fairly deep draft, so if you are looking for a little more quantity and maybe a little less quality....this could be for you! I am always on email and will respond quickly to all offers.....please copy my work email at michael.see@unlv.edu if you want a lightning fast response! Mike See ================================== To 1971 Managers, I have a few players available (see trade bait section on the web page), but the phones are not ringing :( Here's another: Rich Hand, 24 bonus starts in '71, 28 decent starts in '72, 24 games (13 starts) in '73 for a 3rd round pick. I can also combine him with some of the other available players for draft picks or upgrades at 2b. Thanks, Joe =================================== Gentlemen of the league: I am blessed with an abundance of good pitching, which I may be willing to part with if the price is right. I have 3 pitchers (Lew Krausse, John Cumberland, and Ray Lamb) having both 20 starts and relief appearances, giving me great flexibility for the rotation and bullpen. Bill Gogolewski could also be included in this group with fewer appearances. Without jeopardizing my 1971 quality, I would be willing to part with two of these pitchers for 1 pitcher in return of equal quality with 2 or 3 good years left (preferably under 3.00 ERA). I would also be open to a quality 1bman as well or separately. I am willing to keep who I have since it looks like I will finally be competitive, but if the right combo comes along I would be willing to deal. Shoot me a line if you think we can work something out. John ================================ Pete Mikkelsen is still available. You won't find many pitchers with a 1.14 WHIP in 41 appearances in the 3rd round! That's all it will take to get him! And how many 4th OFs with a .344 obpct in 361 ABs will be available in the 3rd round? Not many is my guess :) Well, you can have Walt Williams for a 3rd rounder... what a steal!
