All SPB - IV Managers, Finally, here is the overuse report for the recently complete 1984 season. First off, I will go with the Hats Off to all the teams & managers who incurred no overuse in 1984: Anok Island Gnomes (Steve Brunner) Astoria Zoo Crew (Joe DeZarlo) Canton Moondogs (Tom Kackley) East Kenosha Legends (Dave Lauer) Fairfax Canaries (Ron Peterson) Frankfort Firebugs (Gary Plunkitt) Hawaii 5-0's (Terry Baxter) Oyster Creek Nukes (Al "Doc" Schweitzer) Prarie Bison (Steve Ehresman) Surfside Sharks (Greg Nolen) Toledo Mud Hens (Rich Applegate) Worcester Grays (Hugh McElaney) Great Job!! Thanks. Next I would like to post a couple of notes about 3 teams. First the Asylum Inmates were taken over mid season by Greg Stillwagon, from Ed Bupp and the overuse for that team is not valid, as per the fact that SPB managers taking over mid term are not penalized. Secondly a couple of other 1984 teams changed hands after the season was completed, and again we never penalize a new manager taking over a team that had incurred overuse by the previous managers. So the former Preble Pelicans managed by Jim Wheeler, and the former L. A. Missions managed by Marc Robinson have had overuse dropped for their newly named teams & managers. The new 1985 teams and managers are: Coronado Crusaders (Mike See) & Hoover Grizzlies (Peter Reoch). That means that the following teams had some overuse by did not reach the permanent penalty for begin more than 10 games over. I will list them with the smallest amounts first. Edmonton Magpies (Chris Williams) 1 Game Danny Tartabull, 5 AB (1) San Diego Vaqueros (Steve Lehman) 1 Game Jim Gantner, 8 AB (1) Shelby Stars (Vin Onstott) 3 Games George Wright, 19 AB (3) Kansas City Barons (Mike Boling) 4 Games Mike Jorgensen, 8 AB (1) Bob Bailor, 7 AB (1) Rod Allen 10 AB (2) Rossville Rockets (Rick Ryan) 4 Games Rich Bordi, 4 Gms. (4) Wright-Patt Plainsmen (John Turnbull) 7 Games Wayne Tolleson, 5 AB (.5)* Orel Hershhiser, 3 ST (6) Not too bad all. The following 3 teams have penalties enough that they will be given permanent penalties in the 1985 drafts, because of more than 10 games of overuse. New York Metropolitans (Don Rahn) 11 Games** Pedro Guerrero, 7 AB (1) Onix Concepcion, 21 AB (4) Fred Lynn, 10 AB (2) Cedar Rapids Hired Guns (Jerry Cada) 14 Games** Joe Nolan, 8 AB (1) Phil Garner, 6 AB (1) Omar Moreno, 41 AB (8) Mike Boddicker, 1 Game (1) Steve Carlton, 1 ST (2) Dave Stewart 2 ST (2)* Moose Jaw Corsairs (John Laburda) 57 Games** Jody Davis, 25 AB (5) Ken Oberkfell, 50 AB (10) Rafael Belliard, 28 AB (5) Ozzie Smith, 60 AB (12) Dale Murphy, 30 AB (6) Jack Clark, 15 AB (3) Doc Gooden, 1 ST (2) Charlie Hudson, 2 ST- 1 GM (5) Scott McGregor, 1 ST (2) Chuck Porter, 3 GMS (3) Rick Lysander, 3 GMS (3) Larry White, 1 GM (1) * player was bonus, and only 1/2 regular penalty applies. ** team had more than 10 games (permanent penalty applies in 1985 draft.) This concludes the overusage report for the 1984 season. Best, Gary
