I'm going to boldly go where I haven't gone before and like all prognosticators it's a nebulous unknown space that I'll travel into.  Nevertheless, I'll give it a shot with the following caveats.

a.  I don't know what each manager is thinking and each pick is made with my idea of maximizing the effect of each pick for the team in the immediate and medium range term.  I only looked at stats from 1992-99.  Many of us will be grateful to still be breathing or thinking clearly by the time the 2000's are played in SPB5.  With 8 more drafts and many trades to be made between now and then the bridge to the future may need only be a short one.

b.  I think this is a weak draft.  Several players have up and down careers, others don't hit their stride for several years and many others are role players at best.    This is true in all drafts but my gut impression is this is one of the weaker ones in this league.  You won't find many players here on the DMB Great Teams Disk.  By about pick 11 I was struggling with who to pick.

c.  Any relation to the actual first round to be held on the 19th is purely coincidental.

Enjoy(or not)---Greg Henning

1. Lake Superior-Mike Piazza-C,  A lot of holes to fill on this team but Piazza is far and away the best player in the draft and a future HOF'er.

2. Philadelphia-Pat Hentgen-SP,  There are some better hitters available but pitching is a pressing need.

3.  East Kenosha, Jeff Kent-2B,  Anytime you can get great hitting secondbaseman-grab him.

4.  Frankfort, Brett Boone-2B,  The best secondbaseman in the draft not named Jeff Kent.  Goodbye Tim Teufal We Hardly Knew Ye.

5.  East Kenosha, Tim Salmon-OF,  Will team with Kent to offer an excellent middle of the order combo for several years.

6.  Atlantic City,  Pedro Astacio-SP,  Not as good as Karros, Valentin or Lopez, but those holes are filled and they need pitching and they need it now.

7.  Cleveland,  Javy Lopez-C,  Will take over after Daulton's two good years and be a mainstay in the battery for years.

8.  Pandora,  John Valentin-SS/3B, Will bring a good bat to a needed position.

9.  New Jersey,  Chad Curtis, OF,  Fills a spot occupied by aging players.

10.  Dexter,  Eric Karros-1B,  So long Donnie Baseball, there's a new kid in town.

11.  Carolina, Shane Reynolds-SP,  Will step into the top half of the rotation in 1995.

12.  Chicago,  Brian Jordan-LF,  Somewhat of a spotty career, but fills outfield needs.

13.  Kansas,  Donovan Osborne-SP,  Osborne could help them win this year a has a few good years left in an injury plagued career.

14.  Niskayuna,  Wil Cordero-SS,  Will backup Stillwell in '92 and then take over at short.

15.  Frisco,  Dan Wilson-C,  Fills a need for the mid to late 90's

16.  Wabash,  Tim Wakefield-SP,  Best of the starters that are left.

17.  Kitsilano, Bob Wickman-RP,  Helps with a very thin bullpen corp.

18.  Red Bluff, Dave Nilsson-C,  Helps a catching now and the outfield a few years later.

19.  Black Swamp, Damian Easley-IF,  Will fit well in the infield mix and has some decent years later.

20.  Brooklyn,  Henry Rodriguez-OF,  A long term pick that can help at 1B as well.

21.  Baltimore, Pat Listasch-SS,  Fills a big hole for 92 but offers only ab's after 92.

22.  Quigley,  Jeff Nelson-RP,  Good setup man for a competitive team.

23.  Lafayette, Paul Quantrill-RP,  He's the best hole filler available and has a good career.

24.  Pitcairn,  John Jaha-1B,  Might look for a reliever but Jaha offers needed power ab's with two outstanding years in the mix.
