Carolina Sandlappers vs. Dodge City Marshalls
SPB Now-2007 World Series GAME 1
Two of the best leftys in the land square off, Santana v Bedard. They both got roughed
up, both pitching into the 6th before leaving the game, with a 3-3 tie. Wigginton provided
the biggest boost with a dramatic game-tying 3 run homer in the 6th. Marshalls edged
ahead in the 8th on a two-out run-scoring single from Peralta. In the bottom of the ninth
the Marshalls were right where they wanted to be, lead in the ninth and Corpas on the mound.
The Sandlappers put together two singles prompting Korol to go to Percival. Guillen drives a
3-2 pitch off the left-center field wall, but the Sandlappers failed to win when Andruw Jones
threw out Polanco at home to keep the Marshalls alive. Lee popped out to 3b to end the inning.
In the 11th inning Granderson doubled to RCF with one out and Green laced a 1-1 pitch to RF to
win the extra-inning affair.

SPB Now-2007 World Series GAME 2
In a game dominated by relief pitching, the Marshalls were dealt a severe blow when Weaver
pulled a groin in the 5th inning. Another extra inning affair, the Marshalls win in the
13th when Pedroia lined a double down the third-base line scoring DeJesus from second
following his lead-off single and stolen base. Hero of the game was the Marshalls bullpen,
allowing only a single run in the last 9 innings. Pedroia and Wigginton sparked the attack
with 4 and 3 hit games respectively. Even so, the injury to Weaver would cut deeply into
the bullpen for later games.

Moving to Fenway Park, the bullpen for the Marshalls stepped up to the
forefront. Trailing 2-0 in the 6th, Wigginton belted a 1-1 pitch into
the upper deck down the left field line to give the Marshalls a 4-2
lead. Again, neither starter lasted past the 6th inning, both bullpens
pressed into action. In the 10th inning of the 3rd consecutive
extra-inning affair, Peralta grounded a single between second and third,
easily scoring Crede to give the Marshalls a 2-1 lead and Johan Santana
on the mound for game 4. So far, the bullpen and timely hitting for the
Marshalls is holding back the Sandlappers.

The Sandlappers scored early and often, opening up a 5 run lead thru the
second inning, spearheaded by 3 huge home runs, Asdrubal Cabrera,
Guillen, and Ramirez delivering the shots opening up a 5-0 lead. Raburn
drilled a two-run homer to cut the lead to 5-3 in the 5th. Leading 7-3
going into the bottom of the 9th, the Marshalls struck. With 1-out and
the tying run at second base, Garko struck out. Wigginton was walked
intentionally, the Sandlappers had enough experience with him in clutch
situations, they were determined not to be beaten by him. On a 1-0
pitch Colome induced an easy grounder to Polanco to end the game. The
first game that didnt go into extra innings, was still a decidedly
dogged affair. Series tied 2-2.

A fully rested Erik Bedard took the mound in game 5 and never looked
back. Fanning 16, walking none, enroute to a 8-0 complete game
shutout. At one point, fanning 7 Marshall hitters in a row. He also
had 2 hits, scored twice, and drove in a run. Granderson paced the
attack with 4 hits, Guillen with 3 rbi's. In the second inning the
Sandlappers made all 3 outs at home in aggressive base running
attempts. Swearingen noted that he was "lucky to have the win, or else
someone would have noticed how bad I managed." They would lose another
runner at home in the 7th inning.

In a decidedly ugly game, the Marshalls outlasted the Sandlappers by 6-4
margin. Neither pitcher went past the 6th inning, the bullpens having
been rested were put to work. For the DCMarshalls the combination of
Gregg/Peralta/Corpas was just effective enough to hold on to the narrow
win. Raburn and Garko paced the attack with 4 rbi's comined, and Suzuki
led the way with 3 hits. It could have been worse, the Marshalls
pounded out 15 hits and stranded 12 runners. Series tied 3-3. Meche vs

1st, and then on a 1-1 pitch, Gil Meche launched a 3-run homer deep to LF to cap off a
