SPB-100 1913 Season STATUS: Draft in October
October
21, 2012
Federal League player reminder
LAS VEGAS, NV
-
Just a quick reminder regarding Federal League Stats
for players whom played in this league during the
1914-15 season.
When we first created SPB-100
for the 1905 season, we established very early what
our policy was going to be regarding the use of
Federal League players. This email is a reminder for
some of the new managers and for some of us vets who
may have forgotten. (We tried to keep it simple)
1) Any Federal League player who qualified
for an SPB Season before OR after the Federal League
Years will be a carded player in 1914 and 1915
seasons.
Example 1 (Prior) Three
Finger Brown - pitches for the Chicago Whales of the
Federal League in 1914 and 1915. Becuase he appeared
in an SPB Season prior to these years, his stats can
be used during the seasons.
Example 2 (Future)
Ed Roush - Appears in MLB in 1913 but does not
qualify. His first qualifying season is in 1914, witth
the Federal League Indianapolis Hoosiers. Becuase Ed
subsequently plays in MLB beyond the 1915 season, he
will be considered a rookie in 1914 and his stats will
be eligable to be used.
2) If they only
played in the Federal League and never qualify for a
rating in MLB/SPB, they will not appear on a game
database.
Example: Tex Wisterzil (Ever
heard of him?) Tex plays in 1914 and 1915 for several
different Federal League teams, but never plays in
MLB. His stats will not be eligable to be used in 1914
and 1915.
3) Lastly, none of the
Federal League Ballparks will be eligable to be used
in SPB. As Chris points out, this is good as
"some of the Federal League Parks were extreme hitters
parks, such as Buffalo, and their strong hitters will
be neutralized; others, such as the newly-built
Wrigley field in Chicago, explains the strength of
their pitchers’ performance with equally extreme
pitcher-friendly ballpark effects."
So when you
are drafting, remember that your Federal League stats
will count for the most part, just be wary of the park
effects and how they might effect some of these
extreme players. It should make those seasons a heck
of a lot of fun, create a great Phase II draft AND no
one should have ANY overusage during those years, as
there will be plenty of players to go around.
If you have any questions just shoot Chris and I an
email.

1912 End of Season Reports
LAS VEGAS, NV
- With the end of the season
upon us, I am releasing the 1912
overusage report. The use or lose
report will be out later this week.
July 21, 2012
New manager on board
TOLEDO, OH
- Effective immediatly, we
have a new owner for the Coal City Blue Flames
franchise, replacing John Laburda. He is Jim
Condon, a veteran of several other SPB
Leagues and also a member of another Deadball league,
currenly in 1918, run by Chris Williams.
Jim
will be reamining the team the Shoe City
Leathermen, and will be leaving Redland Field
for the home confines of Boston's Southend
Grounds.
This leaves Shibe Park and
Redland Field as the two available parks for 1913. I
would like to thank John Laburda for his time in the
league, and look forward to continuing to interact
with him, as he will be remaining in SPB-IV. The 45
games of overuse incurred by this franchise is
compeltely waived, as per SPB Rules.
Please
join me in welcoming Jim to our league.
As an
update, Rich Appelegate and I will be playing the 1912
World Series H2H when he returns from vacation towards
the end of the month. Trading will open offically on
August 1, 2012.
July 14, 2012
New manager on board
TOLEDO, OH
-Let
us welcome Dave Lauer on board as the
new manager for Vin Onstott’s Carabelle Barnstormers.
I have sent him a copy of the final season database
from 1912. I will be working on the 1913 database in
the next few months, so we should have it available
well before the draft. Like all pre-1927 databases, it
is a home brew (by me) and not available elsewhere.
But it does need a bit of tweaking to ensure that it
plays properly for the era.

1912 Draft lottery
DAYTON, OH -The only item that has not yet been determined is the order of the top 4 lottery teams:
Barstormers (Onstott) - Lowest Wins
Mutuals (McElaney) - Second Lowest Wins
Sharks (Cada) - Third Lowest Wins
Bombers (See) - Fourth Lowest Wins

Moving forward, the top (4) picks in the lottery will be based on the results of the Night Illinois Pick 3 Lottery (in this case, tomorrow nights 8/11/11 Illinois State Lottery Pick 3 Night). The order of the lottery will be determined as follows:

(16), Lumberjacks, Barnstormers, Rail, Marauders, Fencebusters,

Two No-Hitters tossed in SPB-100!
LAS VEGAS, NV - Pitchers
Nick Altrock and Howie Camnitz (pictured left) both faced the hot
hitting St. Louis Perfectos this season and both came away with No
Hitters against them. Camnitz's came on July 12, and it took
him 10 innings to accomplish the feat, as the Whiskey beat St.
Louis 1-0. Altrock's no-hitter came on August 10, and this
time the Perfectos were whitewashed 6-0 by Altrock's Colonials.

SPB-100 1907 Drafts Completed.
LAS
VEGAS, NV - For the second year running, the SPB-100
Draft saw the top pick trade hands just minutes before the draft
was scheduled to begin. The St. Louis Perfectos traded the
top pick to the Coal City Blue Flames for the Flames #1 (Ed
Konotchy) and "Big" Ed Walsh. Their was little surprise that
the Flames selected starting pitcher Walter Johnson with
the top selection. The remainder of the draft saw a few more
big names, but the talent evaporated quickly, resulting in a long,
grueling draft that last over 8 rounds. Now that the drafts
are completed, trading is re-opened. We should have the
database in your hands at some point in November, hopefully before
Thanksgiving.

Minor Rule Changes for upcoming 1907 Season.
LAS VEGAS, NV - Upon reviewing the statistics from the upcoming
1907 season, the rules committee has decided to implement several
rule changes that will be effective for the upcoming 1907 season,
probably through about 1910.
The years 1906-1910 saw the lowest offensive totals of the
century, though an explosion occurs in 1911 and beyond. Because of
this, and some of the struggles with at bats that occurred last
season, the following changes are being made.

Notes on the 1907 Database and Rookie Draft.
LAS VEGAS, NV - Due to reasons beyond our control, the
1907 Database will not be ready prior to the Phase I and Phase II
Drafts on Saturday. In an effort to make sure our managers
have all of the information they need, we have prepared some
databases for you that include the following. All of these
are included under the "Draft Central" link on the left side of
this page.
The first is the "Official" Phase I Draft List (click Phase I Rookies - 1907). This is the one and only list we will be using for Saturday's draft. Note there is one tab for batters, and one for pitchers. This includes all 1907 stats and eligible positions.
Second, the "Official" Phase II Draft list (click Phase 2 Cuts - 1907). This is broken down by batters, pitchers and uncarded players. Rememeber, each team may only select (2) two players per team and can lose up to (5) players.
Third, is a breakdown of all each teams roster (Click 1907 Rosters on the left) This also includes all 1907 stats and eligible positions and is broken down by team. This should help you to better estimate your teams needs going into the draft since we do not have a database yet.
IA big thanks to Lynn Miller for his help. This has been an all day process for us, but since we probably will not have a database, we want to make sure that everyone has the info they need for the draft. Again, The 1907 Rookie Draft will be on Saturday October 21st beginning promptly at 11am EST (8am PST). Myself and John Ungashick will act as draft central here in Las Vegas.

Team Name Change.
LAS VEGAS, NV - Greg Stillwagon has decided to keep to name
"Whiskey" for the team he took over from Larry Schilling at the
end of the 1906 season. Partly to honor Larry's memory, but
also, in Greg's words, "During prohibition more illegal hootch
came through the Detroit than any other place in the nation."
The team will now be known as the Canadian Club Whiskey. The
team will also keep their home in the Baker Bowl.
